The huge gray dog rose suddenly and leaned forward to knock Spoon completely over and pin him to the ground with one paw. Normally a dog with excellent balance, this being thrown to the ground was something Spoon was unaccustomed to, adding to his shock and disorientation.

"What was that about?!" The wolfhound snarled, black lips parting and teeth showing through the shaggy gray fur of her muzzle. From his peripheral vision Spoon could see two dogs lying nearby begin to stir. The larger of the two, a black and brown Kelpie-looking dog, lifted his head and poked the other, a reddish brown Irish terrier, awake, and the two circled around defensively (or curiously, on the terrier's part).
"Oh yeah, Beyra sent me to help wake everyone up. I'm supposed to "round them up" for the meeting," Spoon replied, reminded of his intentions for wandering the fairground in the first place.
